Now Vienna Museumsquartier (MQ) offers an “augmented reality experience” which also includes curated music. A new smartphone app that wanted to rediscover cultural habits through this advanced technology. Short video clips provide insights into the respective cultural institutions also including curated music. MQ director Christian Strasser said that this would be an experience for all senses.
Visitors showed their mobile phones and tablets at eight MQ institutions who are participated in the program. Based on that analysis a different audio-visual program will be launched. The great thing is that not only the advertising is low-priced but also every organization comes up with something really new. Strasser acknowledge and gave the team of developers a few words of encouragement: “What they’re doing is world-class!”
Music director Andreas Vierziger who did this research through the archives of the MDW – Vienna University of Music and Performing Arts, the KUG – Graz University of Art and Design, the Salzburg Mozarteum University, and also the Vienna TONSPUR Art Association, composed “Augmented Reality Experience” music.
The final step of Joseph Haydn’s “Reiterquartett” had selected for the Halle E+G as former winter riding hall, for example, a timbre piece by Joanna Wozny for the mumok, and therefore the percussive fifth of seven sound spaces by Georg Friedrich Haas was assigned to the Vienna Tanzquartier (Dance Quarter) due to its “strong physicality”.
Petra Stolba managing director of the Austrian tourism board explained that tourism advertiser takes an initiative to understand the post corona tourism industry and they entitled it “That’s How Austria Sounds.” He further explained that “disruptions will occur everywhere.” One thing is for sure: people will travel more consciously.”
Vienna museums are just a start, the federal provinces should follow. “This is project will be continuously developed.” There is still no program for the next places and no absolute plan.
Right now there are twelve locations (such as posters of the institutions) in the Museumsquartier where people can download the app via artivive.com and people can get experience of the interactive project. “Give it a try,” Christian Strasser expressed great optimism about his cultural field and found the result. On September 1, the MQ Dragonfly will finally begin on the roof of the Leopold Museum. A flight of fancy, which hopefully is going to be spared a replacement shutdown.
