Namibia is one of the least densely populated countries in the world, one might think that there is not much to see and do in Namibia. Well, it’s nothing like that. You’ll be surprised to know that Namibia is home to a breathtaking landscape like no other in the world. Located between Angola and South Africa, Namibia is one of the most beautiful travel destinations in the world. This diverse country is full of national parks, sand dunes, deserts, and exotic wildlife. In short, there is no shortage of places to see in this incredible country. Sossusvlei in Namibia deserves a region in the most stunning locations in the world which you visit at least as soon as in your lifetime. Situated in the biggest conservation region in Africa (the Namib-Naukluft National Park), Sossusvlei is perhaps Namibia’s most magnificent and best-known attraction.  Sossusvlei is domestic to stunning red sand dunes and salt and clay pans which draw the site visitors from all over the world each and every year. The dunes in this location are some of the highest in the world, attaining nearly 400 meters, and supply photographic fans with remarkable snapshots in the stunning morning and nighttime light.

There are a number of ways through which you can discover this wasteland city such as 4WD, canyons, or on foot. Be prepared for the most notable outing of your existence in this peaceful and silent desolate tract which is like no other in the world.

Etosha National Park

Etosha is undoubtedly one of the best national parks to visit in Namibia. This huge park is home to a large number of animals including rhinos, leopards, elephants, giraffes, and lions. Namib-Naukluft National Park

The Namib-Naukluft National Park is another breathtaking national park of Namibia that you should definitely visit. There are many parts of the park but the most popular area is Sossusvlei which features the iconic Dune 45. The park is also home to a large number of snakes, jackals, geckos, gemsboks, and hyenas. You can enjoy a number of activities in the park including hiking, hot air balloon rides, game drives, star gazing at night, and many more. There are lots of lodges to choose from if you want to stay in the park for a night or two. Though there is a lot to see in the park, the most famous highlight is ‘Sandwich Harbor’ which consists of a long bay surrounded by stunning dunes.

The Deadvlei is a white desert clay pan located inside the Namib-Naukluft National Park. It is famous for its highest sand dunes in the world reaching a height of up to 400 meters. This spectacular pan was formed as a result of a flood caused by the Tsauchab River. After that, the shallow pools of water were created due to heavy rainfall. It is believed that a large number of camels thorn the trees to grow. You’ll witness thousands of years old trees in the area which are pitch black in color. Due to its blue sky, rusty dunes, white pans, and ancient trees, Deadvlei is a must-visit attraction when you are in Namibia.

Dune 45 is an incredible dune located in the Sossusvlei area of the Namib Desert. The 80 m high dune is made up of more than 5 million old sand giving it a nice red color. The color of the desert changes throughout the day as the sun rises and sets in the evening. Make sure to climb the Dune to view the jaw-dropping Dune Valley around you. The best time to climb the Dune 45 is early in the morning when you can witness the breathtaking view of sunrise from the top of the Dune. If you are visiting Dune 45, make sure to explore the beautiful Sesriem Canyon near Sossusvlei.

Okonjima Nature Reserve, Namibia

Okonjima Nature Reserve is one of the hottest tourist destinations in Namibia. Okonjima was first built as a small form but later on, it was converted to a huge nature reserve. Since then, Okonjima has been offering a number of adventurous activities to visitors. You can enjoy camping in a number of campsites located in the reserve. The few famous campsites include Okonjima Bush Camp and Okonjima Plains Camp. There is also an Okonjima Villa for those who don’t want to stay in camps. Another highlight of Okonjim is its big cats including lions, leopards, and cheetahs.

Swakopmund is another breathtaking coastal town and popular beach resort in Namibia. Locals often visit Swakopmund during the summer season to beat the heat. The streets of Swakopmund are full of restaurants, bars, and bakeries to facilitate visitors. In addition to the scrumptious cuisine, Swakopmund offers many activities to its visitors including swimming, skydiving, and whale and dolphin watching. You can also enjoy safaris and quad biking in the Namib Desert next to Swakopmund. Another major highlight of Swakopmund is Kristall Galerie – Art museum and museum. The museum features a large collection of quartz crystals, rocks, minerals, meteorites, and many other things. The museum is definitely worth a visit when you are in Swakopmund.

Spitzkoppe is a group of gigantic granite peaks located in the stunning Namib desert. This massive granite peak was created as a result of the volcano which erupted millions of years ago. Though the area is not very populated, you can still enjoy camping here and witness the surreal views of dramatic rock formations at night. You cannot only view the mountains but can also hike and climb them. If you are not interested in camping, there are lodges which you can book for a night stay. There are also guided tours available in the area. You can book them on arrival.

Skeleton Coast

Those who want to experience safari and surfing at the same time should visit Skeleton Coast in Namibia. The Skeleton Coast is home to a large number of shipwrecks which represents the stories of disaster. This is the reason this coast is given such a name. You can explore the Skeleton Coast on safari and witness the breathtaking scenery on the way. If you are visiting the coast in November or December, you’ll also see thousands of fur seals resting on its beaches. If you are interested in camping, make sure to book in advance as camps are fully booked during the peak season.

Twyfelfontein is another breathtaking landmark in Namibia that is home to a large number of unique engravings dating back to thousands of years ago. The area has been inhabited for more than 5,000 years and later it was used as a worship site. Thousands of rock carvings were created as a part of the religious rituals. Since then, these carvings have been attracting millions of tourists throughout the year. This incredible site is also a part of UNESCO World Heritage Sites. The carvings represent various animals including elephants, giraffes, rhinos, and ostriches. There are also some animal and human footprints. It’s definitely a must-see thing to do in Namibia.

Stargazing in the NamibRand Nature Reserve

NamibRand Nature Reserve is a private reserve located in the Southwestern part of the Namib Desert. The site also shares its border with the famous Nubib Mountains to the east and Namib-Naukluft National Park to the west. The NamibRand Nature Reserve is home to many wild animals including zebras, cheetahs, spring bucks, leopards, and many more. It is also very famous for its amazing stargazing opportunity at night.
